Come take a ride! Beep beep!Sam may be a man of few words, but he is certainly eloquent on the subject of his car. With a bright, bold palette of mostly primary colors, author-illustrator Byron Barton (Trucks, Planes, Machines at Work, etc.) deftly depicts the fondness Sam has for his chunky little car and the care with which he treats it. “I love my car. / I keep my car clean. / My car needs oil / and a full tank of gasoline.” Sam also describes the parts of his car, how to drive ca

Cars [Original Soundtrack] [Collector's Edition]
Kick your party into high gear with Disney’s Cars CD. Disney Cars Soundtrack, Real Gone, Route 66, Life is a Highway, Behind the Clouds, Our Town, Sh-Boom, Find Yourself.Cars is a typical Disney-Pixar animated movie in that it deals with an anthropomorphic character (here, a car) and the heartwarming values of family and friendship. (Alas, we’ll have to wait a little while longer for the company to take on greed and selfishness.) The accompanying soundtrack is equally typical in that it’s split

Review by Roz Levine for My Car
Rating:
“I am Sam./This is my car.” So begins Byron Barton’s terrific new picture book and with very few words and bright, bold, geometric illustrations, Sam explains the wonders and responsibilities of car ownership. He keeps his car clean and well maintained, filled with gas and oil. He drives carefully, stopping for pedestrians and obeying road signs. And he delights in the way his car is built and the way it works. Sam shows us some of the car parts, including the engine, wheels, body and frame, as well as the lights, so that he can drive at night and the windshield wipers, so he can see when it rains. And he shows us one of the places he drives, to work, where he boards a bus because he’s the bus driver….. Mr Barton’s simple, minimal text is perfect for pre-schoolers as young as two and his childlike artwork is charming and engaging. My Car is a must for all little car lovers!

Rating:
Barton, the author of “Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs” and “Machines at Work,” returns to create a picture book that is fun and informative. Sam likes to drive his car; he keeps it clean, checks the fluids, and discusses many of the car’s parts, including the body and engine. He tells how he obeys traffic signs and stops his car for pedestrians. At the end of the story we learn that Sam drives a bus for a living, and enjoys driving it as much as his car. While some parents may not enjoy the notion of a car being the subject of a picture book, the focus is clearly on the artwork. Bright and vivid tempura paints burst forth in a cavalcade of colors. All primary colors are present, and a particular focus is paid to yellow, green, blue and red. The only drawback is that there is no depth perception to the art; it is rendered in a flat style. This is a small complaint, however, as the colors, straight lines, and curves merge to create a truly unique book. A good introduction for toddlers into the world of color and shapes.

Take Byron Barton’s simple colorful illustrations, mix with a simple yet informative story line, and blend with my 2 1/2 yr. old son’s favorite topic…Cars…and you get this book! We have read this book countless times, and even our 11 month old is captivated by these bright pictures. Byron Barton’s Sam introduces young children to the insides and outsides of his little red car, describing how it needs to be washed and have oil and gas. Simple, yes, but this little book is packed with great information about cars, and at a level that is perfect for very young children.

All of my kids love this book! It has bright, colorful illustrations and uses simple language, and kids just seem to love cars. I think ages 1-3 is the best age group for this book.

Review by Janet Boyer for Cars [Original Soundtrack] [Collector's Edition]
Rating:
My son and I saw Cars over the weekend and I LOVED the movie! The music was incredible, a perfect backdrop to the story and stunning visuals.
Frankly, I’m surprised I like this CD so much because I am NOT a fan of country music! In fact, I (ordinarily) despise it. But Sheryl Crow’s rockin’ Real Gone and Rascal Flatts’ cover of Life is a Highway are AWESOME! I keep crankin’ the latter because it’s just a FUN song when done by Rascal Flatts! (Never liked the original, believe it or not.)
There’s some oldie tunes sprinkled throughout, and my son enjoys both versions of Route 66. A lot. In fact, he’s upstairs toggling between those two songs!
If you saw the movie and thought it was as OUTSTANDING (and heartwarming) as I did, this Soundtrack will engender those same “feel good” feelings. Randy Newman’s ethereal, moving strings are magnificent, so the instrumental parts are excellent. “Tractor Tipping” is a rousing hoe-down of a song that makes me smile because I remember the hilarious scene with Mater and Lightning in the field!
Cars: The Soundtrack is a great CD for the whole family (unless you have someone who absolutely hates all forms of country music no matter what–like my husband!). But if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll likely enjoy this fun soundtrack (even if you’re not a fan of country music like me!)
P.S. This CD comes with a cool fold-out which shows the colorful folks from Radiator Springs.

Review by R. Stanton for Cars [Original Soundtrack] [Collector's Edition]
Rating:
My 3 YO son, who wouldn’t sit through the whole movie, still loves everthing CARS. He knows and plays with all the characters, enjoys the video game, and LOVES the CARS the music soundtrack. He dances to the songs or has me play it while he eats his lunch or dinner. It’s fun to watch him enjoy this album so much, especially when his second favorite is a toddler tunes CD that sings ABCs and 123s.
For me, I really enjoy this album. The fact that my son and I can enjoy the same music together is priceless. The upbeat tunes make it fun to clean house.
Although it’s kind of odd to have a mix of songs and music only sountrack on one album, for this album – CARS – it works great. I have no complaints and I’m very happy (as is my 3YO boy) to own this CD.

Review by Robert G Yokoyama for Cars [Original Soundtrack] [Collector's Edition]
Rating:
I loved all the tracks on this CD. The first track entitled Real Gone by Sheryl Crow is an energetic rock song with a nice beat. This song is about what it feels like to be young and free. Brad Paisley contributes a very pretty song here entitled Find Yourself. It is a beautiful song about trying to fit into a new environment and making new friends. Life Is A Highway is a good song about looking for adventure on the open road. There are two good versions of Route 66 here. I love the classic version by Chuck Berry. The new version by John Mayer is equally enjoyable. James Taylor performs a very pretty song entitled Our Town here. This song is very touching. My Heart Would Know is a very relaxing laid back country song by Hank Williams Jr. Sh Boom is just a very fun cute song. Randy Newman provides an excellent musical score. He really conveys the spirit of the movie in these instrumental tracks. I could feel the excitement and the tension of cars racing in the tracks entitled Opening Race and The Big Race. McQueen and Sally is another one of my favorite instrumental tracks. It conveys the spirit of friendship so well. This is a CD that the whole family will enjoy.

Anyone, even someone who did not see this movie would like this CD. The music is just excellent and it added quite a touch to the movie overall.
If you saw the movie it will bring a lot of it back. Since there is such a positive message to the plot, this is worth having for the message, the music and the memories.
I think this CD is for the whole family, young and old will just love this. I like the song, “Finding Yourself” which wraps up the story and is sung in the last scene. What a great CD.

i have purchased many, many soundtracks and have been disappointed time and time again to find the music on the cd was a different version than the one on the movie, like on the “road to elderodo” and “polar express”. if i didnt like the version on the movie, would i puchase the soundtrack? and then there are the soundtracks that do not include all of the music from the movie, like “anastasia” (and it always seems to be the music i really like)
the producers of this cd finally got it!!!!!!!! i think they included every possible music snipit from the movie even the music from the first scenes of the races. fabulous. the music is just great. this is a great cd w many styles of music. i can not decide which i love best.
